Why Tea Is My Winter Ritual — The Blends I’m Returning to Right Now
Share
At Rose Witch Apothecary, tea is ritual — a daily act of self-care where we consciously choose to turn down the noise around us and turn inward to listen. It is a quiet pause that meets us exactly where we are. For me personally, tea is an ongoing conversation with the plants, the season that has arrived, and what my body is asking me to pay attention to.
As the seasons shift, so do the blends I reach for. Winter invites us to slow down and move with a softer rhythm. In these colder months, I crave teas that are warming, deeply nourishing, and offer steady, supportive energy — blends that care for the body gently while bringing comfort to the spirit. These are the teas I’m returning to right now, and the small rituals they’ve been holding for me this season.
My relationship with tea is never fixed. It changes with the weather, where I am in the country, how much movement my body is getting, and what life is asking of me. I’ve never been a gym person — I’ll choose long hikes in the forest every time — and Winter means fewer hikes, bike rides, and long walks. Tea becomes one of the ways I continue to nourish my body when my usual rhythms are disrupted by weather.
This Winter, I’m also moving through a season of choosing not to drink alcohol. My beloved and I are beginning with Dry January. Although I think we both know we’re being quietly called into something deeper — a curiosity about what it feels like to stay clear, present, and well-nourished throughout the year and beyond.
This isn’t about rules or perfection, but about creating a tea ritual as a surprisingly practical and satisfying replacement for drinking. Tea offers warmth, grounding, and something to look forward to at the end of the day — without numbing, without depletion. Having a ritual to reach for — something warming, intentional, and rooted — has made this transition feel nourishing rather than restrictive. It’s been a quiet reminder that comfort doesn’t have to come at a cost to the body.
Right now, these are the blends I keep coming back to.
In the mornings, I often request Lavender Grey Bliss (yes, I am spoiled — my beloved makes my morning tea for me. It’s one of the sweet ways he shows his love and devotion daily, and I am deeply blessed). There’s something profoundly supportive about the way Lavender and Black Tea meet in this blend. The Lavender brings calm and softness, while the Black Tea offers a steady, balanced awakening, and the Bergamot adds a bright, uplifting note. Together, they create a morning energy that feels clear, gentle, and — true to its name — blissful.
On other mornings, I feel called to continue honoring the warmth and magic of Winter’s unfolding, keeping those good holiday feelings alive well beyond December. That’s when my sweetie brews me up a cup of Winter Solstice Blessings Tea. This blend tastes like drinking a spiced holiday cake in Black Tea form — rich, warming, and layered, without ever feeling heavy.
One of my favorite things about this tea is how the Peppermint shows up — uplifting and energizing, yet so seamlessly woven into the blend that most people are surprised to learn it’s even there. The Goji Berries and White Mulberries add a subtle sweetness and grounded fruit note that balance beautifully with the spices. When I share this tea at fairs, I often see people light up after the first sip. It tastes decadent and celebratory — a reminder that the Winter months, even after the holidays, can still hold joy in everyday moments.
I don’t know about you, but Winter has a way of settling deep into my bones. On mornings when I wake up feeling stiff, achy, or heavy from less movement, I reach for Nourishing Morning Tea #4. I’ll drink it throughout the day, resteeping it two to three times.
This caffeine-free blend is built around herbs that replenish and tone — Nettle, Red Raspberry Leaf, and Hawthorn Berries — paired with Holy Basil, Lemon Balm, and Peppermint to uplift mood and ease tension. What makes this blend especially supportive in winter is the inclusion of White Willow Bark, traditionally revered for its natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It offers quiet, steady, restorative support.
When I’m ready for a shift, or when I want to deepen my tea ritual, I turn to Elixir of Immortalitea — one of my absolute favorite blends I’ve ever created. This is an all-day tea for me. I brew it in my traditional gaiwan and steep and resteep it throughout the day, letting it unfold slowly until there’s no flavor left to give.
When I drink this tea consistently — two or three times a week — I genuinely feel different: more energized, more resilient, more alive. It has a naturally low caffeine content from Pu’erh and Kukicha, offering calm, steady energy that never feels jittery. Paired with the natural sweetness of Jiaogulan — known in China as the “Herb of Immortality” — this blend feels deeply nourishing and supportive of longevity.
I often joke that it feels like my mitochondria turn into tiny little Jedi when I drink this tea, as though the Force is suddenly behind my very existence (lol). But truly — this tea makes me feel amazing.
With the New Year, many of us feel a renewed sense of focus and curiosity — toward new hobbies, creative endeavors, projects, crafts, and skills we’re excited to explore. Letting tea become a ritual companion for these beginnings can help us show up more consistently, with greater presence, inspiration, and focused intention. Tea doesn’t ask us to rush — it teaches us how to arrive.
If you’re new to the idea of tea ritual, no worries. This is a gentle invitation to begin a supportive daily practice. Simply choose one tea that calls to you right now. Brew it with intention. Create a quiet space where you can sip undisturbed. There are no rules here — just an invitation to create space for presence and listening, with tea as your ally.

Tea has taught me that nourishment is a blessing I allow myself to receive — each warm cup held with presence, honoring wherever I may be in this moment.
Join me for a cup of tea, my friend.

The Rose Witch
